Karen Belter Ph.D.
II have provided psychological services since the 1980s. I have had extensive training working with adults, children, adolescents, and families in a variety of settings. Since the mid 1990's I have worked in an independent outpatient practice with an emphasis on anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (including eating disorders), behavioral health, and helping people develop skills for the day to day challenges they are facing at work, and in their relationships.
Treatment Philosophy:
My approach to psychological services begins with a diagnostic assessment process that tailors strategies to the concerns and strengths of each client. It takes into account a person's current life challenges and cultural worldview and explores the interplay of someone's past decisions and how they may impact day to day functioning, both at work and at home. I believe that people can benefit from a combination of approaches that include developmental, cognitive, and interpersonal psychology and that they benefit from a new perspective when they examine familiar patterns in their life experiences. Self understanding and developing new skills to help manage life challenges is emphasized. When the situation warrants a medical assessment, I have extensive experience working with practitioners to obtain medical consultation, if needed.
