Jeffrey Grimes Ph.D.

Dr Grimes is a licensed clinical psychologist who has been in private practice since 2008, He is skilled in providing psychotherapy for adults, adolescents, couples, and families.  Dr Grimes completed his masters (2003) and doctoral degrees (2006) in clinical psychology from Texas A&M University.  He then completed his APA-accredited predoctoral internship training at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio.  His post-doctoral fellowship training was conducted at Southwest Mental Health Center, an inpatient/outpatient facility for children and adolescents.  Throughout Dr Grimes’ training he has focused on a psychoanalytically-informed treatment paradigm with an emphasis on understanding how the patterns in our interpersonal world impact and reflect our internal experiences. It is believed that through the investigation of important relationships, we can better understand ourselves and in turn feel more masterful and have more fulfilling relationships in the future. After his years of clinical training, Dr Grimes spent many wonderful years honing his craft as a staff psychologist at Clarity Child Guidance Center, an inpatient/outpatient facility for children and families in San Antonio, TX.  His work at Clarity helped Dr Grimes fully appreciate the suffering that mental health difficulties can cause for both the individual as well as those that love the individual.  In 2018, Dr Grimes moved to a full-time private practice in the Alamo Heights area of San Antonio, TX, where he provides both in-person and telehealth clinical services for his clients.

In addition to Dr Grimes’ psychotherapeutic work with individuals, couples and families, he has remained actively involved in the training of both psychology and psychiatry residents.  He has faculty positions both at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio as well as at the University of Incarnate Word.  At these medical schools, he provides clinical supervision and teaches various seminars that range from Psychoanalytic Theories, Psychotherapy with Children and Adolescents, and Developmental and Personality Theory.  He holds memberships with Division 39 of the American Psychological Association, Bexar County Psychological Association, and the San Antonio Society for Psychoanalytic Studies.
